Vintage, estimated late 1800s.

 

Kuwaiti or Omani Money Changers Chest with three trays that fit into the chest. 

 

Wood with brass hinges, handles and tabs. Type of wood unknown. Similar chests seen online were made of rosewood and oak.

 

INTERIOR

Photo on left shows a row with three niches, the center having a cover with a brass pull up ring. Photo at right, shows a tray of three rows of niches resting on the chest, with one niche having a flip top cover.

 

After buying this chest in Iran in about 1969, I fitted it with velveteen and ribbons to hold my jewelry, and other treaures, like shards found in the desert and old coins. 

 

17.75 across; 11.75 wide; 7.75 deep.
